85 300SD replacing turn signal relay help
It looks like I need to replace the turn signal relay as my turn signals intermittently stay on solid orange when the indicator or the hazard flashers are engaged.
I've seen the part on Peach parts and I'm ready to order it, but I'm wondering if there are instructions how/where to remove/replace it and if it's located somewhere difficult to swap out. If fairly easy, I'd like to attempt myself rather than getting the shop to do it. I wasn't able to find any info on where/how to swap out, I'm assuming its plug and pray, Thanks in advance! |

ok - I found an old thread using the search function - looks like it's located behind the instrument panel. I thought perhaps it was in the fuse box in the engine compartment...since I don't feel comfortable removing the instrument panel myself I'll probably have the shop do it.

If you mean the instrument panel with speedometer, etc., it is easy to remove. Need two 6-12 inch wires (coathanger works) bent to an L. Insert at about 4 and 6 o'clock, twist so the L's catch the back of the instrument panel, and slowly pull out. It is just friction fitted and the instrument panel has two reinforced slots at the 4 and 6 o'clock areas for removing the panel.
See this from my '81 300SD: you can see the slots |

Replaced relay some years ago. See thread http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/349656-turn-signals-flasher-do-not-work-1985-300sd.html
Used replacement 3 prong relay. New ones might be 4 prong. Nothing too hard. Needed home made tools to pull instrument cluster out. Job would have been easier if I removed instrument cluster entirely and not just moving without disconnecting all wires. No special skills needed. |
