Valve adjustment!!!

HOLY COW!!

Did my first diesel valve adjustment today on this 300TD.

Almost all of the intake valves were REALLY loose, . 008-.012

Exhaust valves were better, but still loose.

Car idles so much better now, sounds so much better.. Can't wait to do the diesel purge and see what that does!!

Good Job!

Be aware that worn valves tighten rather than loosen. Set to spec. A quiet OM617 is one that needs a valve adjustment.

jsp; how long ago did you adjust? My experience is that after adjustment, the lifters and cam need a couple of hundred miles to get used to their new relationship before coming to a nice even Diesel clatter.

I thought the valves always got too tight and a valve adjustment always resulted in loosening them up.

Thumbs up Periodic Valve Adjusting

Sounds good, now drive it 3,000 miles and check them again some will prolly need a small amount of adjusting .

Ditto, the re-adjustment after a few hundred miles.

You will get a possum grin smile across your face when you get the purr, similar to a sewing machine.
