Dragging caliper... damn!

All,

I replaced most of the brake system ~1.5 year ago on my '96 E300... all seemed to work flawlessly. New rotors, rebuilt calipers, new hoses, new pads, new fluid, blah blah blah. I now noticed that one of the rear calipers is dragging. Did I get a funky caliper/hose/or what? Seems awfully soon to be having issues.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

After a few times around, rebuilt calipers are long in the tooth. Most of them are cleaned up, resealed and sometimes honed, but never sleeved. I find the older the car, the less reliable the rebuilts. The same is becoming true of alternators. When alternator rotors get recycled, they're coated in Epoxy or Glyptal, but that doesn't always make the windings reliable.

Is there no new caliper for sale?

Sorry to hear from you that a rebuilt caliper failed.

Rebuilt alternators hmm ''think''. I would rather rebuilt those myself.

If it I has a lifetime warranty and you have the paperwork you can exchange it for another one.
If you are going to get another one either as an exchange or a rebuilt one you might pull out the Piston/s and take a look inside and see if you can see any causes.

I have not seen any posts were people have had issues with a new brake hose. But, I suppose it is not impossible.

Is it possible that the Brake tubing got dented by something from the Road hitting it?

Thanks all for the response! I already pretty much knew that the solution that makes sense is to replace the caliper... just wanted a shove. I ordered a new one this morning and will report back on whether this fixes the issue. I'm sure it probably will and I have to keep this car on the road... it's my daily driver in the winter. Motorcycles on icy roads pretty much suck!

Thanks again!
