Pencil glow plug tip broken off inside prechamber.

Car wouldn't start so I started pulling the glow plugs. Imagine my surprise when I pulled the no. 1 glow plug and the glow plug tip didn't pull out with the rest of the glow plug. Now, I'm worried that if I stick something in there to try to fish it out, i'll push it further inside the cylinder. What to do now???

Don't know if it will be possible to get anything done through the glow plug's hole but assuming the prechamber is intact, nothing the size of a glop plug tip can make it through the tiny holes in the prechamber's tip and into the combustion cylinder.

The injector nozzle holder should be removed and maybe you can get hold of anything by looking down into the prechamber itself. You might need to push whatever remnants into the prechamber from the glow plug's hole first. You'll want to using compressed air blow the prechamber out so that no remnants are remaining in the prechamber's tip and screwing up the combustion.

the cause of the glow plug problem could be a faulty spraying nozzle at the root of the problem. Crazy damage to the prechamber can happen if the engine has been run long with a streaming nozzle.

Have you tried starting the car (with a rag or cardboard or something covering the glowplug hole as a shield) to blow it out?

I've never tried this, so proceed at your own risk, but I bet it pops right out when the cylinder fires.

Since 2007 I can only remember one occurance of a stuck part of the Glow Plug staying inside of a 617.952. And the guy that posted I don't believe said what he finally did.

Squirting PB Blaster or Kriol (penetrating oils) in to the hole would help to soften up the carbon.

Look at the makers name on the Glow Plug. If they are Autolites the tips that extend into the Prechamber often swell or actually split. I had 2 of the tips swell on mine but was able to pull them out any way.

It would not hurt to remove the Injector and Heat Shield and get a strong flashlight and see what you can inside of the prechamber.
