Questions on 240D
I have an '81 240D that I'm trying to fix up. First off, the rear windsheild seal is cracked all the way around. I contacted a local auto glass shop and they said they could replace it for around $150.00, however there is a slight chance that the windsheild could brake during the installation and I could end up shelling out over $500.00 for new windsheild. I debating if I should take the chance.
Next, I have an oil leak that appears to be coming from the underside of the engine, with oil splattered all over. I have know idea what it is originating from. The engine vibrates a lot when idleing. So much that the overhead rearview mirror is coming loose. How can I tighten it back up? How often should shocks be replaced? The knob for the headlights will now light up, even after I put in a new bulb. All the other instrument cluster lights work but the headlight knob. What's up with it? Are hood pads hard to install? I hope someone offers a little insight into my problems. I've had this car over a year and I love it. I just can't wait until I get it in near-new condition. Oh, and this board is great! |

I had a new front windshield installed in the 240D prior to selling it and if I remember correctly it was under $200 at SafeLite. That was with me supplying the new seal. They charge $75 just to replace the seal.

Valve Adjustment on 82 240D
Since this thread is about a 240D, I thought I'd ask about adjusting the valves on an 82 240D. I know there are special tools from MB for doing this, but are they necessary? If not, what do I need special? Will I need a new seal? Just looking for a few pointers before I try it!
Thanks!! |
