1984 300DT: Fan came out, ideas for cleaning it?
Thank you to all the people who contributed on the other thread, each and every idea for turning the engine helped a LOT! The power steering pump bolt turned the engine over about 3/4 of the way.......then the belt began slipping again.
I then had a helper turn the engine by way of the key in the ignition......quick bumps...no glow plugging it....this enabled me to get to the bolts. I used a 10mm flex head flare nut wrench which slipped nicely over the bolt with the help of a LARGE flat head screwdriver. The fan came out easily, the bolts look good. Now it appears the fan may have some grease or oil on the blades. I'm thinking of spraying Sam's Club Member's Mark degreaser to clean the grease/oil/gunk off. Any other ideas? |

Dishwashing soap should do it.
Where’s the grease coming from? Fan clutch? Is the backside of the PS pump pulley oily? Is the vacuum pump leaking? Front crank seal? Sixto 98 E320s sedan and wagon 02 C320 wagon |

The water pump pulley appears to be clean. That said, this car has quite a few oil leaks which I am in the process of tracking down and repairing......
I'll use dawn dish detergent to clean it off...thank you for the idea! |
