Socket for block heater? OM617

1984 300CD. Does anyone know where to get a socket for the block heater? I tried 1 3/4 inch size an it was just a little small. I suspect that 1 13/16 would work. Not sure though. Where do I get the right size?

Let me know if you have success with this. I tried to remove the freeze plug on a 616 several years ago and it indeed was frozen! But current engine I’m working with also does not have a block heater and would be extremely handy.

I’d be looking for a metric size..

I'm not trying to remove the freeze plug. It has what I believe to be a OEM block heater that is not functioning. Surely someone has removed one of these and know exactly what size is required. 1 3/4 inches is just a little too small.

Are you sure your cord is good? The heater is pretty simple and unlikely to fail I would think.

I'll test it before pulling it out. What is the best way to test with a cheap multimeter?

I don't know the size but if the Nut area on the Block heater is thin either buy a socket that does not have the taper shown in the attached picture or grind the socket flat to remove that taper. Otherwise there won't be much of the socket teeth that are going to make contact with the Nut.

I think the size mentioned in the first post is the Fuel Tank Screen size.

Measure the ohms resistance across the pins.
Should be around 6 ohms... zero is bad 100+ is bad...
Any continuity to the block is bad.
