W126 seats in a W116 (pics)
I LOVE my 1979 300SD, but even though the seats in it were in MINT condition (now for sale), I hated that they were flat with no tilting adjustment. Even after I installed a brand new seat box, it still felt blah to in. I purchased a 1988 560SEL running and driving (2nd gear only) as a parts car and took out the seats, harnesses for the power and heat, switch panel and also the controls. My car now feels like a completely different car to drive and it still matches and looks like they came with the car. So nice to have the support and heated seats! I also transferred the steering wheel also just because I'm not a fan of the giant steering wheel.
I didn't type it up DIY style, but it is a pretty straight forward transplant. you use the stock mounts in the floor and bolt the rear of the seat track to the rear holes. For the front holes, you need to drill a new hole in the seat track and then it bolts right into the factory hole on the floor. Once in you can't even tell that they aren't meant to be in there.

I fitted 1984 300SD seats in my 1976 w115, i found they fit almost perfect, just need to drill two holes per seat. I havent permanently installed them yet, need to get them reupholstered as they don’t match color. Reason I wanted them was I don’t like the spin knob to make the seat back recline, I’d rather have power. I found there is room on the center console to install the seat controls, rather than the door panel. This makes it easier to run wires and lessens the likelihood of wire breakage as it’s not constantly bending everytime the door opens. I robbed the wire harness from the donor car too, so all I need to do is connect connectors, and supply power and ground. So thats my seat story.
