Alternator in 300SDL died, how do I wire up a w210 E320 Alternator?

Alternator died while driving, got home safe and sound. I have a spare Alternator that I took from the junkyard, how do I wire it up? Hardware store with copper wiring?

Don't forget to grease the screw and threads on the spring compressor.

210 still has the integrated regulator with the D+ (skinny wire, excitation) and the B+ (fat wire, power) terminals. It should wire in just the same as your SDL alternator, assuming it has the bolt on connections and not that silly plug in connector. If you still have that plug in connector then find a harness from a gas 124 and swap it out. It goes up to the terminal block near the battery. This will give you the ring tongue connections you need to bolt onto the 210 style alternator.

You may have to swap pulleys, not sure how the gas motor belt vs the OM603 belt works out.

Note anything later (i.e. W211/W164 etc) will have a digital regulator with LIN-bus connection to the ECU and won't work on old school systems found in 124/126/older models.

Before worrying about wiring it up, I would first check to make sure that you will be able install it properly without any problems like pulleys, belts etc.

You can swap a sprinter VR with normal terminals on the later alternators to make it work older cars. I have 150a R230 alternators on my W210 and W124. They're dirt cheap and plentiful on fleabay. Also use an OAP.

I kept the pulleys just in case. W124's are rare to find in the yard, I doubt I'll find one quickly enough.

Wired it up.
Luckily I had a spare W210 alternator harness, I just took the alternator off my E300 and it was a direct fit.
