Has anyone hooked up a dash cam to their MB?

I got a dash cam for my car, both front and rear. I haven't tried to hook up the rear yet but I am working on the front. I easily got the wire up under the interior door seal and up to the headliner but there's nothing to hold the wire into the headliner. I don't want to get those crummy 3M sticky things and have them leave sticky residue or fail in the winter.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks for putting the wire under the lip of the headliner so it will stay in? I don't know of any headliner wire clips.

Thanks,

jeff 1991 300d 220k

In the C320 I tucked the wire into the front edge of the headliner. Nothing to it. The camera is between the rear view mirror and windshield.

I bought a kit to power my dashcams, hardwired them into the power for the sunroof at the switch above the rear view mirror. Just popped out the light, soldered in the power and ground, fed the power cable out the front of the trim piece at the top of the windshield. I needed a really stiff wire to feed the power cable down, used one of the stainless steel inserts from a wiper blade, taped the end of the power cable to that, and pried down gently at the leading edge of the trim while pushing the wire / cable through from the hole where the light lives.

Ah, yes, the joys of pre-CAN cars. I think I tapped the same source for an auto dimming mirror in my ‘87 300D.

I really want to get a mirror-mounted dash cam for my 300SD, but it seems like anything under $200 has reviews about horrible picture quality and reliability. But, I'll probably spend the money when I'm working again.
