Heater hose diameter
Hi, I have a 1980 240d with a 4 speed manual trans.
I can't find the form fitted heater hoses anywhere, so I am going to go with straight hose and try not to kink anything. Does anyone know what the diameter of these smaller heater hoses is? Thanks. |

Consider taking the old hose off, going to a big box auto store and looking for a molded one in their stock that would work. This may involve cutting the newly purchased one but often works.
Another option is to internet search with the # stamped into the original hose, you might get lucky. And...sorry I don't know the answer to your question.

Another option is Pegasus Auto Racing Supplies. They sell various diameters and lengths of silicone rubber hose, including some that are bent to various angles. I’m not familiar with the hoses on your car, though.
I’ve recently bought an assortment of hoses from them for my car, shown below my signature line, and they appear quite sturdy. I haven’t installed them yet.

I have a junkyard nearby that specializes in buses and heavy vehicles. They have a huge heap of heater hoses with various bends in them that usually suits all my wrenching needs. If you have a junkyard nearby bring your hose and go for a dig around. Also bring a fitting if you can to make sure that it will jam in.
Remember heater hose is under low pressure and modest temperature and you can do all sorts of stuff with it, from barbed plastic fittings to chunks of bent steel tubing. These bends are pretty common to find in the junkyard pile and can be had for a dollar or two, they are real problem solvers to avoid kinks.
