swapping ring and pinion

I have ended up with a GenII 2.88 diff out of an SDL. I have a Gen I SD with a noisy 3.07. This is the second car with 3.07 gear that's noisy. For the first car I got a 3.07 from a wrecking yard and that was noisy too. So that's three noisy ones. Maybe it's that particular combo or gear teeth that's prone to noise, I don't know but I'd sure like a quiet one.

Anybody ever swap gears from one case to another? Is that a total can of worms? Anybody want a 2.88 Gen II dif?

I have a gen 2 subframe I'd sell. Gear swap can be done but setup procedure is about impossible to follow. You may luck out and it all bolts in happy but you may not. Look in performance paddock for roncallo LSD diff build and tools. He's litterally a rocket scientist and is messing around with that dillema.

The mb rear ends have a long reputation for being noisy, and for being pretty unburstable. If you can stand the noise you probably will not live long enough to actually wear one out. I know one person who wore one out but he drove it for several years with different size rear tires making it work all the time and it got hot then quit.

Sorry never saw the response. Yes they are interchangable. You may have to Install a couple rivnuts to bolt the rear diff mount to the cross beam. It uses two of the 4 already there and the other two would be to the left.
