Bit of old faithful...

Hi I just picked up this 300D it has all the factory manuals and MSRP which according to my old lady is the only reason I bought it... 278k runs nice and definitely needs some maintenance. This weekend I changed the fuel filters and oil. Prior to this there was a nasty oil leak but I figured I’ll clean it all up and it couldn’t be to bad. Well we took it for a decent drive the first time! got on it drove some highway etc well when I pulled it into the garage she’s got a geyser of oil spitting from the turbo drain tube/breather drain tube area. I’ve been reading all night/day regarding the repair.

I feel like I need to drop the pan and service the check valve..or is that going to the last step to fast? Thanks for your time this is my first Benz and I’m in love with it but I’m used to working on land cruiser with gas engines

Something is blocking cc vent.
Or you have a hole in a piston/stuck rings...

Thumbs up Another Newbie

WELCOME TO THE ASYLUM ! .

Have at it, like all German cars there are lots and lots of rubber seals and grommets that dry out and leak, be smart and buy the correct factory ones from your Peach Parts, the M-B Classic Center or your dealer (if they can be bothered, many flat refuse) .

Before long you'll have staunched *most* of the leaks, weeps & seeps .

During the process you'll learn how to adjust the valves (*VERY* important, requires specially bent wrenches you can make or buy) , do a "Diesel Purge" and other little things, in time you'll either love the car or make it decent enough to re sell at perhaps 1/2 ~ 2/3 the $ you have invested into it .

I suggest dropping the lower oil pan to do the turbo oil return seals, it's easier to push the lower part up and out with no damage .

Copy and paste how - to information and make up a folder of repairs, you'll get to all of them ere long .

Post Oil Drainback Tubes

There are two drain back tubes on the North American engines, the larger diameter one is usually the worst leaker, it has no check valve , the other, smaller one might .

The smaller tube is not there on 85 CA OM617s.

Then your job is easier......

Don't get rattled ~ these are well engineered fairly simple cars, designed to be repaired by average Mechanics with a few special tools and here in these forums are detailed descriptions of how to do it and work arounds too .

I don't see any dent / cut in the tubes you posted .

That's not very clean either, it takes some time and effort to get these really clean .

? Maybe clean the hole in the metal pipe with brake cleaner then patch with two part epoxy ? .

Before you run the Car very much be sure to look at the Oil Cooler Hoses. If they are seeping at all change them before you drive it.
