1986 Mercedes 300SDL blowing the window fuse repeatedly?

Good evening all

I've started back to driving my SDL more frequently. It has 300,000+ miles and is still fun to drive. The last few times I've gotten in it the driver and rear right window wouldn't work. I immediately check the fuse and it was blown. I replaced it and it didn't work until I rotated it a little in the socket. It continued to work the entire day. One week later I jump into it and the same windows didn't work. Yes the fuse is blown again. I replaced it and it immeadiately blew. Any suggestions on where I should begin?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Ron

You probably have exposed or frayed wiring for you window switch. Remove door panel and check for defective wiring.

You have a short to ground, in other words, somehow, somewhere, someway, your window switch wiring is exposed, and is coming in contact with a metal surface.

Don't forget to grease the screw and threads on the spring compressor.

Excellent that is where I'll start. It'll be a treasure hunt.

The same but where the wires hinge when you open and close the door.

true, it's the wires that connects to the window motor.

Did you narrow it down to if the fuse burned when you used only the front window or if it burned when you only used used the opposite rear window?

Does the fuse burn whey you use the rear window switch that is on the rear door?

Also Fuses with plastic bodies can have the plastic melting long before the metal strip on the fuse get hot enough to melt.

Clean the fuse contact areas in the fuse box.

Thank you for all the great information. I'm going to look at it this weekend. I get home to late to take advantage of daylight.
