Oil pump pin om617????

How do I remove the oil pump pin part number 617 181 01 74? Seems like it's just press fit, afraid to damage cap...

If that is a main bearing cap the shaft goes into I can see your concern for caution because if you mess that bearing cap up and it cannot be used you cannot just buy an other main bearing Cap because it was machined to fit that specific block.

If it was me I would just get a new Oil Pump Tensioner Shoe and polish the shaft some and reuse the original shaft. The new Oil Pump Tensioner Shoes is going to rid on the high parts of the grooves worn in the shaft.

If you can access a online manual you might see how the Manual wants you to do it.

I have the full engine manual, and it doesn't describe having to replace it. other than pointing at the pin and telling you it's there, there seems to be no information.

I guess then you have tough choice on your hands.

From the posted pictures I don't sew any way of driving the pin out (even if driving it was a good idea) from the opposite side.

If the hole does not go all the way through to the other side the only safe method I can think of to remove the Pin is not a do-it-yourself method.

And you would need to talk it over with the people that do this before do anything.

I only know the machines from up to around 1985. I am assuming they might be even better now. They used to be called EDM machines. Essentially what you have is a tubular electrode with coolant running through it. What the electrode does is gradually burn through the I am going to say Bolt because they are usually used to remove sheared off bolts on items where you don't want to mess it up with normal methods.

In the case of a bolt they pick a tubular electrode singly smaller then the outside and they would burn a hole through the in your case shaft (note you would cut the shaft sorter after discussing if that would be a good thing to do first). Burning an hole close to the size of the shaft releases most of the tension on the press fit and they ought to not have much trouble getting it out after it is burned through down the center.

The electrode can burn through any hardness of steel with no issues.

If you want more conventional methods do a google search for removing a pressed in shaft from a blind hole. I don't know what you will find.

Or you could just turn it over to a machine shop or automotive machine shop and hope the don't crack the bearing cap. One would think they will have more experience and better equipment choices the someone at home has.
