Complete engine rebuild- 557,000 mile 300TD

I am finally getting around to rebuilding the engine in my friends 300TD after a year waiting for the pistons. The end of this thread: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/383009-celebration-planned-friends-500-000-mile-300td-5.html

We finally have the pistons, the reconditioned rods, and the block with new liners-honed to the pistons. A pile of new parts is awaiting assembly as well. Blue also brought back his car after straightening some sheet metal from a former collision, and painting the engine bay. Blue has also brought a bunch of polished aluminum parts. This is going to be an engine bay beauty contest winner when we are done with it. He even polished the oil pan!!! There is a rumor going around that a few chrome plated parts may make their way into the engine bay. We shall see. I am waiting on engine bearings, and then I can start the engine assembly. Stay tuned!

Gathering parts for plating and polishing

Blue came today, and we gathered up as many parts as we could to take and get plated, and to polish. Blue has polished most of the parts, but the vac pump, SLS pump, P.S. pump, and turbo compressor housing have not been done yet. The parts that he has polished so far look awesome!! There is also quite a number of parts to be plated, as seen in the photo. Blue is headed to "the Valley" to pick up the remaining parts, so we can start assembling the engine......Rich

They're polished so they look like my valve cover and oil filter housing. Nice! Is that a locking door pocket compartment? I've got a locking armrest I retrofitted from a W126.

How on earth did you get them so polished? Surely not by hand!

This job reminds me of your engine refresh. Every part cleaned, restored, or replaced. Blue plans to make his engine bay award winning......Rich

Post Engine Rebuild

Wow ! .

That's simply GLORIOUS ! .

Is the special bit a non E.G.R. manifold ? .

Did you soda blast the pistons ? .

This is truly going to be a wondrous thing to behold .

WOW. Here I'm painting all those bits with a nice grey Engine paint... Yours is going to blow mine out of the water! Can I ask what it cost you to get all that polished? maybe I'll send all my parts that way...

More engine photos. Blue is picking up some parts tomorrow morning, so we should be able to get the engine ready to put in the car. Needless to say, Blue is excited. He has not been able to drive the car for over a year.....Rich
