How did you troubleshoot and find it was the Fuel Tank Screen?

bubbles in the prefilter and assumption, all other components replaced, primer pump was leaking and rubber lines were old and brittle so all that was left on the suction side was the screen

I often wonder about this thing...
Back when I went to check mine, I found the previous owner had removed the screen portion with what looked like a pair of scissors. I installed a new part. Now I find practically nothing in my primary filters. Great, except that this thing is catching it all and primary filters are changeable without draining the tank.

I have one similar to that from a couple of years ago.

If you regularly run a diesel down to qtr tank you will notice the difference in performance as the screen has a buildup around the bottom long before the top gets clogged. It's way too easy to prevent that screen from causing so much problems.

If you have crud in your fuel it would be a good idea to treat that to kill it. If it is not growing inside of the tank crud has to come in when you fill the fuel (that is a problem at say some industrial yard that has their own fuel tanks and there is rust and water in the fuel). One member said he keeps a Funnel with a fine screen in it in a bucket in his trunk and uses the funnel when he fills the tank to keep crud from coming out of the Pump at the station. (Too much trouble for me.) If you removed the Fuel Tank screen as the former owner did and put some filter up near the Fuel take with a shutoff valve so you could change the filter with out draining that tank that would work but there is a small chance that something from the road could damage that.

Do you use some chemical treatment like Startron or do you just periodically remove the Tank Screen to check it.

I don't think it has to be that far upstream?
Even somewhere between the rear rubber lines or the line that comes off the screen would make an okay place for an additional primary filter. A set of vice grips would allow simple changing without draining the tank. Quote:
