what're you going to do with the amber fog lights?
Greazzer, are you going to sell (or give away ) the stock headlights?
My 1978 300CD has the clear inner fog/driving lights, and when I have them on, people assume that I'm driving with my high beams on, because they see four horizontally arranged headlights illuminated, kinda like the W116 has. I think this problem would be eliminated with the amber fogs. And how come some W123's have clear fogs while some have amber? Does anybody know why for certain?

The headlights I just installed are the Bosch Euro's. The "French" style have the yellow fog lights. Some folks paint or stain the inner reflective lense yellow because French Euro lights are insanely expensive not to mention most folks trying to sell them are really passing off painted or stained "regular" Euro's. Not sure I am going to do that. If I could find a vendor who professionally stains or paints or colors the inner reflective lense yellow, then i would do that.
As for the US Federal DOT headlights, I have never seen white (clear) fog lights. |

Ive got the white US fog lights on my 77 240D. They changed to the amber lights in either 80 or 81 IIRC.

Thanks Billy. I didn’t know that. I thought they just bleached out. Lol. Mine which I took out are super yellow and minty to include minty doors. The PO maintained the car to the highest standards possible My goal is to keep it up

W123 Fog Lights
I bought a pair of yellow H3 55 watt fog light bulbs from Pelican parts, they're great in the clear fog lamp assemblies on my Wagon .
Yellow head lamps are nice, they reduce glare and better illuminate road signs . They're technically legal here in California but I managed to loose the written bit of vehicle code that says so , occasionally a pissed off or bored cop would give me a ticket so in the end I went back to regular head lights ~ many Motocycle shops sell the yellow H4 head lamp bulbs, your Ford dealer can order them if you know the proper P/N I no longer have .

The same e-mail is still the best. I'll still be checking in for updates. My next car will be a Mercedes diesel of some sort. Not may W123's but I see lots of low mileage 190's for sale.

Minor updates
Slow, but sure ...
Installed the washer bottle which was in the trunk with the other parts' treasure trove ... And went ahead and got the Mercedes washer fluid too .... lol Going from the aged, tannish one to a new, white one does set off that corner of the engine Last edited by greazzer; 02-03-2020 at 09:25 AM. |

Did my first maintenace item to China Blue ...
Oil change. Did all the O-rings, et cet. Did an engine flush as well. Engine flush can be tough on the bearings so followed precisely the instructions. Did a sacraficial oil filter and oil fill just to make sure all the flush was flushed out of the system. New MB seal on the oil filter cap, and made sure all the O-rings were the correct size, and new MB drain plug to include making sure I followed the FSM spec's on torque. Got a few oil leaks to tackle down the road, but the oil change from 2/2/2020 will last me for at least a year ... I got the ol' girl on the interstate and it got right up to 75 MPH and was very peppy. The slight transmission flare is now totally gone as well too. |

It is a beautiful pristine car. If it were mine, I would drive it on Sundays only, no rain, no snow, no sleet and NO parking anywhere (idiot door dingers are on the loose everywhere!).
Of course garage kept cars tend to keep their appearance better than cars parked on the street. |

Precisely what I do now. Garage queen
I think I have around 30 miles on the car since I bought it a few months ago Mileage will be linked to either whatever maintenance I do or updates plus a test spin |

Mud Flaps
Half the mud flaps are now done; got the rear pair installed. They are about perfectly set. They can be somewhat a PITA. Always looking at some fine tuning details but overall they are installed.
As for these repro's from Turkey -- 1. Overall, good quality 2. Not as thick as the originals from back in the day 3. Mounting hardware is a little bit different 4. The appearance is overall excellent for a reproduction Overall, I am happy for $99 shipped. You can find these on E B A Y. If I can find a set of original mudflaps from back in the day, I will buy them and swap these out. Just inpatient as summer and brutal heat is closing in. Goal is to finish the handful of repairs and updates before June 1st ... Originals are tough to find. On 'Red', the AMG Wanna-be, it took a few years to put together a complete set for all 4-corners ... which were in great shape. It tooks a few years, for example fronts from Germany and rears from UK. As these parts are simply drying up, I suspect finding original W123 mudflapps in great shape will be a tougher as the years click by. |

China-Blue is the proud recipient of the first mod’d 15.85mm rear swaybar (torsion bar). Was a little aggressive on some corners but the ol’ girl held her own in an admirable fashion. So my first mod , but it’s not readily noticeable , on this Teutonic Warrior.
