The ccv breather hose broke on my on my 1987 300TD and I bought a new complete hose. I went to install it today and found that the grommet in the hole on top of the valve cover was also cracking.

However the grommet that broke was actually ribbed hard plastic like the end of the breather hose, while the grommet currently listed on pelican looks like it is smooth pliable rubber.

Does anyone know if that grommet will work with the breather hose?

Even if it started out soft rubber in 1987 it won't be now, I would say that looks like what is on mine and the others I have seen.

It definitely works, being new and pliable. I just bought one for my 603 a few weeks ago.

The grommet is SUPPOSED to be rubber. The hardness is from completely rotten rubber (why it's cracking), and the ribs are most likely impressions from the old breather hose. Replace it. Be careful getting it out, if it falls down inside the valve cover you can't get it out (it falls down in the breather assembly).
