PPI in DFW area

I posted this in the "Good MB Shops" board, with no response...so I'll re-post here. :)

Okay, I'm looking to buy an '85 300D from a fellow board member in the Dallas/Fort Worth area as soon as my van sells (hopefully soon; I've got a few bites that sound promising; this could happen within the month). From what he's said, it sounds like the car's in beautiful condition. However, I'm paranoid, as usual...especially since I'll be driving this car back to the San Francisco area immediately upon buying it. So, I'd like some recommendations on a good shop in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that can do a pre-purchase inspection to make sure the car's in good shape before I actually buy it. Please keep in mind that I don't know the DFW area at all; I've never even been through any part of Texas other than Amarillo, and that was when I was 13...

Again, it's not that I don't trust him; if I didn't, I wouldn't be willing to fly out there...I'm just naturally paranoid. :)

Thanks in advance!

Hey Warden (Hah! - That's what my friend calls his wife...) - Which part of DFW is the car in? It's a decently large city, and some parts are a 2+ hour drive from other parts...

Two possibilities in North Dallas & its suburbs: Rodney Herson on Davenport and Autoscope on Coit Rd in Plano. Both have very good reputations, though I've little direct experience with either.

Y'know, I honestly don't know where in the DFW area the car is. However, for a shop that has a good reputation among multiple people, I'm willing to travel a bit...heck, I'm going a good 2,000 miles to look at the car in the first place, right? :)

And I'm used to big city areas...having grown up around the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas...

There is an MB dealership just minutes from the airport, and in a great location for quick in, and quick out. The name of the place is Park Place Motors in Euless. They are off of Hwy 183. You have to exit on Industrial (coming from the airport), and follow the frontage road. They are on the right hand side. I go there to buy parts that I cannot get from my local auto parts store. They seem to be pretty good people.

Warden, make sure you have a map that has a good view of Dallas, Ft. Worth and the surrounding cities. It is easy to get lost in that mess if you aren't familiar with it.

And for an added thrill on your trip you can try driving on 635 on a Saturday night, talk about some crazy drivers.

Wasuchi, that is funny... I have only been lost two times in my life... once in 1967 and once in 1990... and they were both out near pipline road north of Arlington/Dallas....

LBJ...Just say No! I can't even remember the last time I drove on LBJ. Or should I say parked on LBJ? I just avoid it at all costs.

Diesel Power 06-18-2002 11:27 AM

I drive an hour to work everyday just so I can stay out of the metromess as much as possible.

Wasuchi 06-18-2002 04:57 PM

LBJ..... parking lot or speedway?.......well it changes from one to the other every few minutes except rush hour (hours).

Diesel Power 06-18-2002 06:56 PM

You mean that traffic acutally moves at ANY time on LBJ?

Wasuchi 06-18-2002 10:18 PM

Only for short distances at as high a speed as possible. Then you have to hit the brakes, real fun when you are pulling a trailer full of horses.
