Car repair in the snow

I had to work on my niece's car today because she is visiting for Christmas, and it was the only time. It was snowing, but I had to do it. Even though I had a cover to work under, it was still "Frigid" (Is that a cuss word?) cold, so I had to brave the elements. I had to replace the heater valve, and we decided to do an oil change as well. After removing the cowl cover and windshield wiper assembly, the heater valve is actually quite easy to remove and replace. Tip: spray a small amount of silicone lubricant on the fittings, of the valve and supply hose will slide right on. Another tip: After replacing the coolant, pressure check the system BEFORE installing the wiper assembly and cowl!!.....Rich

You're a better man than me.

As a rule, I never do car work on another person's car, family or otherwise (excludes wife). But doing it during the winter? That's just hardcore!

My worst experience was changing the starter on my slant six in Muncie Indiana in 1969 when it was 20 below.

Well done, taking care of family. Done that kind of thing plenty of times and doubtless will again.

Send the snow up here. Haven't seen a flake all year.

My niece really likes the car, and it has been very reliable for the few years she has owned it (this was my first CDI). I have been her "mechanic" since she got her first Mercedes-Benz Diesel (her second car). She has had several 123 sedans and coupes since then. Her sister has never owned or much less driven anything else but a Diesel MB (my brother brought her up right!).....Rich

SoCal has been weird lately. We had a tornado warning in Anaheim last night.

CA gets a lot of snow once you are anywhere above sea level. Rollguy are you in the high desert?

I am not sure where ROLLGUY lives but if you live in the Los Angeles area you can be up in the mountains throwing snow balls and if the traffic is good in 1.5-2 hours driving be down sunning yourself on the beach.

Even if you are in the Desert it can sometimes be numbing cold especially in the morning or at night.

The mentioned Yes-High Desert can be numbing cold in the winter.

When I was a Kid with the Scouts we camped at this high desert place in Apple Valley at Dead Mans Point and we did not set up any Tents. When we work up in the morning we found out over night it hat snowed a little leaving a nice crust of frost on our stuff.

Someone on Facebook told me that the antelope valley has snow right now. That would be the Lancaster and Palmdale area.

That's crazy to me but yeah, high deserts get snow!

Rich,
Good work! Just had an opportunity to repair a neighbors vehicle. It was nice to be able to give back a small portion of what they have done for me throughout the years.
