OM617 Turbo Drain Tube

I found reference on here for installing the OM617 turbo drain back tube into the upper pan but I can't seem to get it to open. Evidently I don't have the proper access to YouTube. I think I follow the written instruction but sure would like to see the process - I had one heck of a time installing mine and now I have to do it again as I install the new turbo. It sounds like you slide the grommet up the lower tube, push the lower tube into place, then slide the grommet down and into it's slot in the pan though I'm not sure I've got that right.

So: Can anyone get me access to the video?

An interesting side note: With the bigger turbos I run the factory hard tubes won't line up so I'll cut the tubes short and use a length of 3/4" (19mm)ID tube between the remaining upper and lower sections of the hard tube sealed with a hose clamp on either end. I'm pretty sure this would make anyone's installation easier even with a stock turbo. I'll take pics when the new oil pan grommet gets here.

I can't remember how I did it as it was too long ago. The manual has you install the Grommet (called a contoured sealing ring in the manual) into the Upper Oil Pan and then insert the lower Tube with the O-ring on it into the Grommet.

I am pretty sure I coated the inside diameter of the Grommet and the areal slightly above the lower O-ring and all the way down with generic STP I got from Walmart. It is way slicker then Oil is.

After that there is little detail as it just tells you to insert and install the upper part of the Tube with a new Gasket. I also STPed the upper O-ring.

Well I found in my notes that I installed the lower tube differently and I have a thread on what I did.
In post number 3 I slide the Grommet over the lower drain Tube and installed the tube all the way down in to the hole after I had lubed it (I had the Lower Oil Pan off) then I slid down the grommet and used an open end wrench to squeeze it on in (there is a picture). Then installed the upper drain tube and pushed the lower tube up from the bottom.

Thanks! Your method was what I thought I had read previously but I wasn't sure I was following the text correctly. Evidently the FSM method is - um - difficult. At least, I didn't have much luck with it.

I guess I had the same issue because I had the Manuals on CDs many years before I changed the Grommet and I obviously did not follow the manual. Perhaps the Manual presumes the small Oil Pan is still in place.
