Advice, opinions and impressions wanted......

Greetings forum members,
Seeking the varied and learned opinions, both pro and con, on the possible purchase of this 07 R320 CDI.
It's been listed for a while, not moving too quickly. Wondering if thats a bad indication?
Pretty sure the seller will come down in price.

My Benz experience is limited to my 83 240D which I've owned less than a year. Fired right up on a few snowy 20 degree mornings, past couple weeks, (without using the block heater, which is functional) and warmed right up. Considering something a little more "modern"....lol

Thanks, in advance, to any that might reply.

So first off, I've not owned one. However I have heard NOTHING but negative comments from people on here that have. Apparently the R class is notoriously unreliable....

Thanks "dude". Exactly the type of feedback I was looking for. Due to my extremely limited experience I don't have much to go on.
There's a recent thread discussing the diesel "320" and it's getting a lot of praise. Guess that doesn't include the "R".....?
Or, am I confused? (more than likely.....)

All the years that I've worked on these, there's only one thing that I've found good about them. The room in the interior. I won't bore you with anything about the 642 engine. IMO, there's absolutely no benefit to owning a modern diesel.

Thanks Paul. Yes, the room of the interior is one of features that really appealed to me (besides being a diesel).
Seems like there's gonna be plenty of reasons why this one isn't "moving"...
As the old saying goes, "if it's good, it's gone".

To me there is a lot to take in on a deal like this. Vehicle model aside what's the maintenance history for example. These R class are still an x164 platform which it shares with the GL, ML so there is nothing particularly worse on the R model than the others. The OM642 is decent, assuming great maintenance at this mileage.

I would be worried with light rust from Pennsylvania. If you scooped this up for 3,000.00 how could you go wrong even if you only got a couple of years outa it?

Yes, "Krusty", also thinking along those lines. Dunno if the seller will go as low as 3K, but I think 3500 to 4000 would still be a decent deal. Ad doesn't address the "rust" issue. That's something that would play a big role in what I'd be willing to pay, for sure! Doesn't look that rusty for a 13 yr old rust belt car... Looks, of course, can be deceiving (especially in pictures).

It's like W220 S...everyone knows it's crap, but from time to time some crazy will drive it and dump money into it...

Thanks guys. Appreciate all the replies. I think I have enough info to convince me to pass on this one. Not much input, but nothing positive. Plus the fact it's not selling says a lot. Didnt bother contacting the seller. It's not for me. Closing this thread. Thanks!
