76' 300D swap into 75' 230

Hey everyone, new to this. I recently picked up a 76' 300D and a 75' 230 I did a lot of searching on this site and couldn't find much on whether or not the om617 will work with the 4spd automatic from the 230. The 76' 300D has transmission issues and I was going to do a W56 swap but found the 75' 230 for dirt cheap with a working trans. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The two transmissions are basically the same: 722.1xx.
They differ in valve body calibration and governor calibration. If the diesel valve body and governor are good, they can be installed in the gasser trans.

Okay I did a bit of reading and I believe the 230 trans is 722.10 and 300d is 722.109.
When I swap over the valve body from the 722.109 to the 722.10 do I need to use the same separator plate/channel plate or would the 722.10 be okay to bolt up to?

The valve bodies will be used as complete assemblies w/ oil distributor plate, though the gasket may require replacement.

I think that the pre 1979 diesel 722.1 didn't have a vacuum hose hose going to them just a throttle linkage.

1980-1983 diesel 722.1 have just a vacuum hose WITHOUT a throttle linkage while gassers have both throttle linkage and vacuum.

also measure the height of the torque converters. I know that in later transmissions they are different between diesels and gassers but i'm not sure about 722.1

Found this diagram of the trans. If someone wouldn't mind pointing out everything I might need to transfer from the 722.109 trans to 722.10 trans that would be great! I know you guys mentioned the governor and valve body but just want to make sure that is all. I really appreciate everyone's input so far, i'm learning a lot from this forum and hopefully this helps someone in the future. thanks!

In addition to the valve body, to transfer the governor (480) will require removal of the three-legged output flange, and the rear housing. Before removing the rear housing, remove the vacuum cell, spring & pin (578) from the gasser trans, and the modulating pressure plug, spring & pin from the diesel trans. Also remove the secondary pump plug & spring (599/598).
If the modulating valve housing w/ spring (228/229) from the diesel are OK (not contaminated or scored), move them to the gasser trans also.

FWIW,

my 1982 240D's slush box tranny has both a vacuum pipe to the modulator and a mechanical linkage connected to the throttle linkage....
