om642 cuts out suddenly. help!

Hi everybody!
So this 2010 R350 I have has been cutting out after it warms up to whatever degree it is that it decides to. It seems consistent at least now. It used to seem random but now I see a pattern. My mechanic told me the ECU was losing ground and that what was causing it. I somehow dont believe him. I've taken the ECU out and fiddled with it. I've sent it off to get looked at and they ended up sending it back to me saying they dont work on them. (why they didnt say that up front is beyond me) Anyhow, Now I go out when its cold. It starts, it runs fine, everything looks normal but then after like 30 seconds of idle the glow plug light comes on again and stays on for maybe 45 seconds or so then goes off. I'll drive maybe 3 miles and it will just die. I'll pull over, key acts normal and everything lights up... except the glow plug light wont come on like usual and I get no crank. Ideas? My mechanic said there werent any related codes associated with this issue which is WHY HE CHARGED ME 500 DOLLARS JUST TO DIAGNOSE!!! So lame. Said he spent 4 hours looking for issues just to land me on this "loosing ground" thing.

thanks in advance for your input. Opossum

Get it scanned with Xentry (dealership or indy). It will smoke out the problem.

But first check out this thread and see if you have a problem with water getting into your central gateway or some other problem with the CAN bus networking. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/400578-w211-can-bus-problems.html

What city do you live in, there may be a forum member with a Xentry nearby that can help you out.

Good scoop Jay Bob! I'll check those components for corrosion and will report back. I will look in to the Xentry. Thanks
