1983 300D Oil Filter Housing - Component
Hi there,
I can't find any information on this thing anywhere. It looks like there is a vacuum nipple coming off the rear bottom of the oil filter housing, and pointing toward the rear of the vehicle. Does anyone know what this is for ? I have a 1983 300D and the nipple is not attached to anything. I want to know if it should be routed somewhere/capped. Thank you |

That is the oil pressure sender.
It should be connected to the single wire that goes to the oil pressure gauge.

If you have a typical 300D you have a Mechanical Oil pressure gauge which means you need a oil line going from that are of the oil filter to your Oil pressure gauge and the sending unit and where the sending unit screws is not going to work for you.
300SDs had the electric sending unit. I would also make sure that the main housing itself is for your engine. In the pic is the end plate for a Oil filter set up for a mechanical oil pressure gauge. The yellow arrow point to where the tubing fitting for the oil pressure line screws into and the red arrow points to where the banjo bolt goes for the Turbocharger Oil line. I don't know if you can just swap the plates to turn the electric sending unit one to a mechanical gauge one.
