Car is running again! 85 300TDT.

This is my first start attempt after working on my car. Rebuilt the Vacuum pump, SLS Pump, SLS High pressure line. Replaced timing chain all rails and the tensioner. Had a 7.5mm Pump built by Benzforce, and added a HX30w. Put in new injectors, Lines. Fixed the Turbo drain tube and replace oil check valve. Rebuilt oil pump chain tension spring and guide rail. Put in a new front seal. Replaced oil housing gaskets. Custom braided line from oil filter housing to turbo feed. New filter and gasket for transmission. Plus a BUNCH of little things here and there as I went.

First start

Odd about video s not playing, when I click the links it works fine. Idle is still slow, rough really need to either get the AB light or Drip time it. Since the chain is new, I installed the pump using the factory marks. It's close, very close...

Congrats! That's a lot of work, why did you need to do all that?

Car is old. 500K on it. It needs a lot of work, starting with all the mechanical, then I'll move to body and interior. After I get everything running the way I want I plan on pulling the motor/trans cleaning everything up and spraying the engine compartment. I don't have the room to do this all at once, so I have to redo a lot of work to get things how I want them.

Thumbs up High Mileage Service

Nice, I hope you create threads with images....

In my decades of Mechanicing I discovered that occasionally one needs to address normal wear & tear items and replace seals, do a good cleanup of old dirt, grime and oil , because I was a VW Mechanic I adopted the habit of painting all the sheet metal parts too as I went along .

You'll be well pleased with the end result .

IIRC the "AB Light" is a dynamic IP timing device ? .

Where to rent one ? .

I don't have the 85 pump. Mine doesn't have the same port as the 85, so I don't think the A/B light works with it.

Wink Hope Ya Know......

It springs eternal .

I keep hoping someone in Southern California will have one I can borrow or rent or pay them to use on my Diesels whilst I watch .

I took my Foster boys to San Pedro in my late '84 gray market TD to - day, they love riding in the third seat .

Too bad I'm not allowed to post images .

That'd be great, I'd drive to San Mateo for that although I'd like to use it on all three of my cars .

Yes, the A-B timing tool.
Probably will travel to LA in May, once normalcy returns.
