Trunk warning triangle

Anyone have any thoughts on how to remove the large plastic clip from the trunk lid that holds the warning triangle to the lid. W126 Euro car. Thanks.

It's held in with tabs. I can't remember if they slide up or to the side when installed, but push in the opposite direction of installation with a lot of force. It should slide out.

On the 78 Euro 300D I had, 2 bottom corners had tabs that fit in recess/holes in trunk lid. Top corner fit into recess also but held in place by rotating latch. Don

Pretty sure it's permanent unless you destroy the trunk lid. I left the last one I saw in the junkyard cause the trunk had original paint that was still shiny and didn't want to ruin it. If I remember right there are 3 tabs that slide in, then another one that locks it from sliding back the other way once it's fully installed.

Directly beneath the large black plastic knob is a small square plate oriented at the 4 cardinal points of a compass.
Reach in with needle nose pliers, grab 2 parallel sides, then rotate the square plate 90 degreees.

This will allow the lower hidden square plate (oriented at a 90 degrees offset from the visible top plate) to come out of the square mounting hole.
