W124 Hood Swap - CE hood to 300TD
I have access to a decent hood from a 1990 300CE that I would like to put on my 1987 300TD (which has complete clearcoat failure). They are both pre-facelift models so I think they should swap fine from that perspective.
I was going to do the swap last night but then noticed a few differences that I don't think matter but wanted to confirm if possible.
I think I can safely eliminate the squirter heaters, i.e. just cut the wires to them. I live in Seattle and it seems like they are a bit of a fire hazard based on other threads I have read. So my main question is if I cut the washer fluid line on both hoods, put the CE hood on my 300TD and the splice the 300TD fluid line into the CE hood will I be ok? Or was there something fundamentally different about the 1990 hoods and washer system? And are there any other hood swap complications I might be overlooking? thanks |

I think everything on the nose is the same between the cars, hood should work. I agree to eliminate the heated washers if that is what they are, I honestly don't know...thought they were heated by coolant in the washer bottle.
Are the wires possibly for the factory alarm hood switch? Good luck!!!
