How to Macgyver throttle bushing?

So, I'm picking up a soon-to-be parts car and "runs and drives great" just turned into "I lost the title and the accelerator isn't working now".

I'm betting its the throttle bushing, and would love to avoid towing this thing 2 hours, I know the answer is "fix it with wire" but I'd like to be a bit more solid on what to do to get this thing moving.

Can anyone give me a better idea of the rig-up to get this car 130 miles, or am I just asking for trouble?

At the least, it'll help get it into the barn when I get it home.

Many thanks.

LBJ

No title? No sale, Charlie. Good way to get screwed. They don't have it on hand when you show up? Walk away.

Normally it would be a no go for me too, but it’s NH so no titles for cars older than 99, so I’m betting he didn’t lose it, he never had it to begin with, found it on the barter section of craigslist.

Low mileage and gorgeous interior, it’s a pity it was left to rot.

I’m not registering it anyhow, just need to get it from point A to point B to start pulling parts.

Bring some 5 minute curing JB Weld Epoxy with you. Typically the shaft pulls out of the plastic ball that is behind the bracket.

However often the Plastic Ball just crumbles away.

The other failure point is the rubber. I will let you figure that one out yourself if that is the issue.

2 attached pics one with the shaft pulled out and one showing what a new one looks like from front to back.

Post Throttle Bushing

One of my old W123's came to me with a medium sized cork whittled to fit...

It worked fine but drove me batty so I replaced it .

Good luck with your treasure trove of parts ! .

Back to the OP

It would be less trouble to buy new bushings (cheap) and install them (easy).

I have no idea why the picture did not work out in the first time I posted on. Glad it worked on the 2nd post.

Agreed-
Not sure th is is the issue and the opportunity has a short window, otherwise I’d be arriving with more than a coat hanger and a champagne cork.....probably

I replace mine last year and it was $42-$45. Not cheap but not unreasonable. I did not get it from a Mercedes dealer.

I don't consider that cheap but some of the parts are reaching that point of no longer being manufactured so I decided to replace mine. And sure enough the plastic ball was had partially fallen apart although the shaft had not yet pulled out of it.

It was the rubber, it separated entirely from the plate behind it.

tried to epoxy back togetherbut too much of an oil slick to do on site so ended up towing.

thank you!
