did the valves (1st time)

Back before the ceevee I picked up a 79 300d NA.

Well I finally got around to doing a valve adjustment.

My center console is out due to climate issues (conversion in progress)
So it’s been sitting a few days. Before that between driving and
tickering / fixing and the weather either it was raining,
or the engine was warm or it was too close to dusk to start.

Bought the wrench kit and a gasket and tore into it this past Friday.

The linkage was easy enough to set aside like some of the instructions say.

Once I got inside and started 4 out of the 10 were still in spec.

The others were way too tight. I did not measure them before setting
them to the proper clearances (maybe I should have).

I got into the habit of every time a lobe hit the proper position going around
I would double check the clearance.

First time and I wanted to get it right.

Tied everything back together and she fired up fine.

Still no road test (console) but everything sounded okay
so hopefully out of the road she can breathe a bit better.

Congrats. I'd suggest checking them again at the next oil change and adjust as necessary. If they are all close you should be good to go, if not do them at the next (second oil change). Occasionally it takes 2-3 adjustments to get them to "settle" then every 12k. These engines are happy when in spec.

Good luck!!!

Thumbs up You Did It !

See now ? .

That was messy but not overly hard .

As mentioned, check the again in 3,000 miles, then once more, repeat until they remain in adjustment the go to 10,000 mile / annual checks / adjustments .

I just did the valves on the new TD. Most were so loose that I checked to be sure that I was using the correct feeler gauge.
