Stuck glow plugs
I cannot get the #2 and #4 glow plugs out of the head. They will unscrew all the way, but won't come out. I know about the carbon buildup and that they are stuck in it. I have tried a 'lever bar' type of set up to no avail. I stopped short of excesive pressure for fear of breaking the element off the body.
Any ideas or solutons would a great help. thanks!

Don't despair: I recently swapped mine out for new ones also. Having never done it before, I was literally backing this one out for ever and ever and ever and thought I would NEVER get it out...
Finally I realized that it HAD to be backed out all the way, just stuck, so I grabbed it with a pliers and wiggled the hell out of it, gently pulling it out. Yup, it came out! |

Reaming the holes
The factory service manual that I recently puchased (books) mentions this. (expensive E-bay on buy but well worth it) There is a MB reamer and part number. The two plugs I did get out I very gently hand reamend with a 1/4 inch bit. With all the plugs removed you crank the engine to dispell most of the carbon debree(?) out the plug holes and not out the valves!
Oh I got two chassis and one engine manual; 16 pounds in all!
