CDI Engine Mounts

My niece's CDI had at least one bad engine mount, so she ordered the parts, and I did the job yesterday. I also changed all the glow plugs (big job), but I will review that job in another thread.

I had no idea how bad the mount(s) were, but knew at least one was bad. The left (driver) side was not too hard, as there is easy access. That mount looked fine, but I replaced it anyway. The right side was a little more challenging. I had to remove all the bolts and clamps from the DPF to make room so the mount can be removed. This mount was destroyed! I have changed many of these mounts, but have never seen one this bad. The photos speak for themselves! I also replaced the trans mount for good measure (easy).

IMPORTANT TIP! Before installing the air box mount/heat shield, notch the rear most E10 screw hole so the screw does not have to be completely removed next time the air box mount needs to be removed. That screw is hard enough to get the tool on, let alone getting the screw in the hole in the first place!........Rich

The last time I changed the engine mount on the passenger side of the 2006 CDI, I removed the engine mount PLUS the mounting arm. It was quite straight forwards. All the oil leaked out from the mounts, it was messy.

Had to do the W211 mounts recently (on my son's 2008 with OM642).

The mounts were in similar shape to yours.

On a 642 the left side is easy but on the right side you have to take out the exhaust coming down off the turbo to get enough room to work on things.

Absolutely get one of those dog-bone wrenches it is the only way to hit the top nuts on these.

I used a piece of lumber, with a floor jack, under the transmission bell housing/engine interface to provide support, and only did 1 at a time.
