240D auto trans operation

Test drove a auto 240 D today. Owner said you have to keep the accelerator pedal on the floor til you get to the speed you want and then let off. Supposed to make it shift correctly.

Is this for real or a vacuum leak?

Auto is for my daughter.

That sounds pretty much like the one my neice is driving works. My brother-in-law brought it over this morning for it's 3k service. Changed the oil, lubed the throttle linkage and checked everything over real well. Car is still running and driving great. It will accelerate better by making the transmission stay in the lower gears a little longer versus when you accelerate slower which results in the shifts coming a little too early.
