1981 240D random WOT

So I took my kid’s 1981 240D (manual transmission) for a ride, it randomly went to wide open throttle. Nothing scary, I just shut the key off to slow it down or shift and turn it back on until I got home.

I had only got a few miles, the car was barely up to operating temperature in moderate weather. Once the car cooled off I started it back up and the issue had disappeared.

This car has the original throttle linkage in proper working order.

I took it to the tech, he’s scratching his head thinking maybe the old cruise control that has never work kicked on and was messing with me. While the fellow that works on my car is Mercedes-Benz factory trained he is not a diesel specialist.

Any thoughts?
