What is this electronic box? 82 240D (photo)

Howdy, can someone tell me what this box is? It's attached to the inside of the panel below the dash on the left (driver's) side. There seems to be an adjustment on it.

It looks like it has a radio connection, I guess in case someone pulled the radio?

A few days after I posted this, I heard a clicking underneath the dash where this thing resides. I have no idea what set it off. Some sequence that I must have done that I can't replicate. Anyhow, I remembered that there is a mystery switch inside the glove box. Switched that off and the clicking stopped. I guess the clicking was a signal to the horn, which has been disconnected, probably because it got annoying to the previous owner. Maybe one day I'll look closer at it and see if there are any loose wires that I can plug back into it lol.
