W123 seat covers for hot weather?
I'm interested in getting some summer seat covers for my W123 300TD front seats. Usually I just keep beach towels on the seats all summer, but I'd like suggestions on options you have tried and enjoyed. I sew, so making my own is an option if there is a material that you think I should try.

Seconded on the sheepskin. It's counter-intuitive to have something furry for hot weather, but it really works. There's a reason commercial cockpit seats always have sheepskin.

Also been meaning to get some seat covers for a while now, been using a sheet. Can anyone post pictures of their Covercraft seat covers on a w123? I'd like to see how well they fit, thanks.

Sheepskin, wow, that's amazing! I almost bought a set of sheepskin set covers this winter, and I never considered them for summer. Definitely gonna buy some soon then.
Thanks for the tip!! |

Fabric Covers
Love those purple sheepskins!
I could not stand the sweatiness of the MB-Tex vinyl and used a beach towel that constantly shifted around. Did some research & considered sheepskins but went with fabric. I am very happy with the covers and service I received from Seatcovers Unlimited. They have a pattern for the W123 coupe, I got the premium full coverage (headrests, armrest, seatbacks w/pocket) in the Madrid fabric. They fit perfectly and are a dream in hot weather. Paid $202 shipped. |

Those are some nice options. I hate the vinyl myself, I don't get why that was popular enough to not even offer fabric here. My car came with sheepskins but they're gray (I've got the infamous henna red interior). Still makes a big difference though.

Upholstery Choices
Sadly fabric seats tend to absorb sweat and grime very easily and then are much harder to clean than and vinyl or MB-
Tex . Cloth seats are great looking and comfy but for the Hoi Polloi they're often not a good choice .

I guess rich Americans being too lazy to clean fabric would make sense. LOL
I've had 4 cars with fabric and I would take it over vinyl any day though. |

Cleaning
Well ;
I'm certainly not lazy, I get these cars well used and always spend a lot of effort trying to clean them as best I can . I can get M-B Tex looking like new apart from the cracks but the fabric never really does look great again . I have a decent blue fabric W123 driver's seat I'm going to scrap soon because no one wanted it ~ I bought it because I needed unbroken spring box, cleaned it up and used it, liked how it felt but prefer my M-B Tex palomino .

I'm speaking of when they were new, of course. Fabric was offered in Europe, and seemed quite popular. Maybe it was just because Americans tend to eat in the car...

Before Mercedes I've always had Audi's & VW's with fabic or velour seats. They held up great with no tears and despite fast food consumption had no permanent stains. If you look at the pix I posted of the Seat Covers Ulimited covers, you'll see a bunch of red rubber bands on the turn signal stalk. Each one is from a "Big Daddy" sub/hoagie/grinder eaten in the car!
Cloth seats in my previous German cars were good in the summer and despite being half a pig held up well. The cloth seats in my Chevy (diesel) van are shredded. Cloth seats in a Nissan my Dad bought new ripped in 6 months. I don't have experience but will wager the fabric seats in a W123 held up very well over time. I wonder why they were not available in the USA? |
