Annoying chriping sound from the steering column

1984 300D. The car has been sitting for about 1 month on the street during the pandemic. I never went anywhere with it, so that was my fault. However I decided to go out for a drive today and upon start up when I was turning the steering wheel I could this swift shrap chirping.I turned the engine off it was still present. Something tells me this might be something on the steering colum? I rebuilt the suspension 4 months ago.

New: Lower control arm bushings, steering guide, steering shock, ball joints, guide rod mount.

I even changed the PS fluid which looked dark. Any ideas?

Does it seem like it's coming from the steering wheel hub area? Could just be the carbon brushes for the horn ring squeaking on the slip rings.

Yes that or the turn signal cancel ring rubbing.

The pre air bag cars are easy to remove the hub cover, just grab a corner and peel it off.

Air bag car - disconnect battery, wait 5 minutes, loosen two Torx bolts behind wheel, pull airbag towards you, unplug, set aside where it can't do any harm if it goes off.

Once that's off you will be greeted with a huge 10 mm allen bolt. Be sure your socket is snugly inserted, get a big breaker bar, and have a friend hold back the wheel (don't rely on the steering lock!) and you can pull the wheel off to reveal the turn signal mechanism and the horn brushes.
