Depending on the model it can result in most of the emission system being replaced. Thats the case on my GLK250. I have yet to get anything in the mail but they did say it should be coming within the next couple weeks.

I'll probably schedule mine out a ways to get some more life from my current emissions system, only about 12,500 miles on it right now.

I got my forms and instructions last week for the 2013 GLK. Don't know if it's the same for all models but they apparently ship the parts necessary for the conversion to your preferred dealer, they do the work and you have to submit all the data with the completion, for the payment. You have until November, 2022 to get it all done. I'll be interested it the effects on performance.

Anything greater than a 4% loss of efficiency or power means a bigger payout, and 10% or more an even bigger additional payout.

What are they doing for those who no longer own their Bluetec vehicles? Maybe sold them out of frustration, or traded just because of age?

In Canada, nothing so far.

Got the forms for my 2013 and 2014 in the mail yesterday.

There is a release of liability form that you have to sign and submit along with proof of getting the work done before they will send you the payment. The waiver says you will drop all future claims against Daimler and Bosch in return for the payment.

You're supposed to go to a website and punch in your VIN and this will take you to the automated repair scheduling system where it will set an appointment at your nearest MB dealer.

Note that because of covid fear many dealers stopped giving out loaners. Mine did for a while last spring but I think they are back to it again. I'm in the free republic of SC where there are very few restrictions. I imagine in more restrictive places the chances of a loaner are probably not very good.

I have been contacted by a law firm in TX who is begging me to opt out and let them represent me instead. You still get the fix for free regardless because the US government mandated the changes (this is why it's USA only at this time). On the fence about what I want to do there. Not looking for a payday, but I want to make sure that the waiver is fair, and doesn't leave me with a hobbled car, and no further recourse to make it right.

Also (again only in the USA, sorry Graham) if you're a former owner you have until July sometime to make your claim.

The settlement gets divided between the current and former owner if the former owner comes forward. I think it's about a 66/33 ratio if I remember right. If no former owner comes forward you get the whole pie (a little north of $3k). I am sure they have a database of current and former owners of these vehicles and so the former owners probably got the letter too.

When I get a minute I will read through the forms better and provide some more updates.

I believe you can be compensated too.

Today I filled out the letter that I got on Monday. It says to schedule the service. I called and the service mgr said they had nothing to install yet, but then said he was doing one for another fellow....his first. So he promised to call when the parts arrived.

It says I can receive up to 3500 or so for my bother once I have the work done.

Fingers crossed.

I wonder how this is going to effect the people I hear about that had a tune and DPF delete done to their car. I think if I did that I would just ignore the whole thing and leave the car alone. As it is, I'm going to take a "wait and see" approach, as after reading the notice I received from MB, there are too many "may effect" statements or the like in the paperwork.

My car stopped running. The repair to get it driving again was 4300. I decided to wait for the fix and settlement.

I'd put all the stuff back on you took off and take the mb fix if I were you.

I was just wondering how the folks that did have a tune and delete done are going to be affected. This does not apply personally to me, but I think if I was in their situation I would just leave well enough alone, as the original system causes more trouble than it saves, makes the vehicle un-reliable or even un-drivable, and there is no guarantee that the fix is going to address the overall reliability of the vehicle. All MB is going to do is replace the old system with new parts, but in the end it is going to be the same system, just with software tweaks and new parts.....just because something is new doesn't mean it is going to fix the issue long term....just my .02, but I'm still interested in what those that have done a tune and delete plan to do about it all.

If I had one and had done the delete I'd rum it and not worry about it. Typically by the time I get rid of one, unless it is a w123 car or some such, I have so many miles on it it is not really going to matter.

Previous owners have until July to claim up to $800 or so from the payout. In my case the previous owner was a company that leased to businesses, so I doubt they are paying any attention to this as they've likely moved on from Bluetec's long ago as the last ones sold were 2016s.

If the fix makes any significant decline in performance I'll probably just sell mine and move on to something else more interesting.

Most likely the main factor here is that the new exhaust systems have a different (likely more expensive) catalyst design....which impacts the pocket book of the manufacturer more than the actual performance of the vehicle. I suspect that AdBlue fluid consumption may also increase as it will likely utilize it across a wider temperature range. Around here I easily go 1.5+ years, and 13,000+ miles before it gets low enough to need more....which is only about ~6 gallons, about $25 at the dealer.
