The new system is pretty comprehensively different. The warranty on the system is extended 48 months after the conversion.

I went to the website https://bluetecupdate.mbusa.com/home (this is the Daimler site) and entered my VIN numbers and this is what was returned.

My wife's 2014 ML350, the solution has been fully baked and approved. I am contacting the dealer on Monday morning to get an appointment.

My 2013 E350, the solution has not been approved. Tentative date Q4 2021.

Until the work is done you cannot file the claim. This gives plenty of time for the prior owners (they have until the end of July) to come out of the woodwork and file for their part.

Even if you get the work done this week you still won't see any payout until late 2021 or probably 2022. For sure not until the fall, because of the deadline for the prior owners.

Update Monday Apr 5: got my appointment for Friday, they said it takes "a few hours". Will update after the work is done.

I took mine to dealer late yesterday 220 miles from where I now live. They worked on it all day today and returned it to me @ 4pm. There was no noticeable difference in performance on the return trip home. FWIW, the fuel consumption gauge driving down @ 70mph showed rate of 40mpg. The return home was @ 90mph and the gauge varied between 34 & 39mpg. Refueled before leaving yesterday and now have half a tank. So far so good!

So it looks like the warranty on the new system is 48k miles or 4 years from the date of completion.....so the more miles on the car before the repair the better. I'll be taking my time in getting it in.

Cars with a lot less miles just get warranty for 4 years or to 120k whichever comes first.

The list of items covered under the extended warranty is quite extensive, so those with high miles may have a side-effect benefits from it whether or not any failures are related to the fix itself.

The warranty is also fully transferrable....so buying a bluetec over the next year that has recently (or even better not yet had) the fix done, is a pretty sweet deal at 4 years/48k of warranty regardless of miles....thats nearly as good as when they rolled out of the showroom originally!

After a week and a half we finally got our car back.

Dealer said 'these are taking way longer than we expected and we got backed up'.

Planning a road trip this summer, we will see if it cuts into the performance/economy.

My car is finished but I have not picked it up. I asked for a mbca discount. The dealership just changed hands and apparently nobody is on first with these situations.

How can they offer a discount when the repairs are free?

Any more updates on how this repair is working out? I have a 13 E350 Bluetec and am debating whether to have this done when it becomes available for my car.
Thanks
John

You should definitely have it done when its available, if anything for the 48k miles worth of essentially full emissions/engine warranty!

I originally had mine scheduled to go in tomorrow, but they called me a few weeks ago and said they've found that additional parts are needed to complete it properly, and are waiting on MB to sort/source that all out, so its delayed.

I don't care how long it takes for them to have it ready, every mile traveled is a mile deeper into high miles warranty land. Mine will be (currently) warrantied until nearly 150k miles once the repair is completed.
