Ever wondered where all the old W123s end up?

This picture apparently taken in a small town in Morocco. Apparently every second car is an old Benz! Usually diesels.

My coworker is Moroccan, and when I bought my 300D and brought it to work she said "oh! a taxi!" hahaha.

Morrocco has not changed apparently since I was there in 1973. The cabs are newer. I remember seeing old chryslers used as city to city taxis running little four cylinder diesels.

I had family visiting from the Middle East and they said the same thing. I was excited to show my cousins my "classic car" and they just responded with, "Oh, you bought an Arab taxi?" Ha ha!

Not that I didn't know they were used for taxi's in those parts of the world but their reaction was basically the equivalent to pulling up to your American friends in one of those big, bulky Yellow Cabs and trying to impress them. They would be like, "Um... okay?"

That is funny. Some people name their cars, with your permission can I name my W124 300D the "Arab Taxi"?

When I raced my 84 280e there was a fellow with a middle east sounding name who liked to call it the Baghdad taxi. I stripped off everything of any weight that was not needed but never took off the tri star.....I told everybody that I used it to aim the car between the cones.

Yup, in Lebanon to this day the majority of taxis are W115s/W123s. When I visit with my wife (she's Syrian-Lebanese) I refuse to ride in anything else

They make great cabs. Trunk is huge, fits family of 4 plus driver, decently high ground clearance, and hey, its a Benz.

They're all gassers. The US market bought the vast majority of diesel W123s. Diesel cars are banned in Lebanon and a few other mid east counties.

The license plate on my 300D/250D says “Monit”. Hebrew for Taxi. I was in Morocco in 2018. I noticed that close to all of the taxis were OM616 powered W123s or OM602 powered w201s and 124s.

I'm sure the "cash for clunkers" program in the US destroyed many w123s
as well as other future classics.

I had a freind visit when my W210 was still roadworthy, he was from Holland and called it a taxi too.

apparently all medium sized mercedes benz are taxis everywhere. (the roof rack which he brought for me was the final nail in the coffin to make it a taxi)
