1983 240d driver rear power window problems

So I've been trying to fix my driver rear power window for a day now and I found my problem. At first I had no power and soon found I had no ground at the rocker switch on the center console. After running a temporary wire from the neg. side of the battery to pin #4 on the rocker switch I had 12V in the rear drivers side door with the ignition on. After wiring up the window switch based on the pin numbers and numbers engraved on the switch itself I heard noise but no movement. When I unplugged the two wires going to the motor itself and reversed them the window went down, and I put them back the way they were originally and the window went up. My problem is, the switch on the door and console does not make the window go up or down, I have to manually flip the wires on the switch and the window go up and down. However the window goes up and down on its own with the rocker switch in the neutral position, if I push it down it will stop the travel of the window but if I release it, it will continue going down or up. I also swapped window switches with the one on the passenger rear side which works. But I still had the same problem where the switch had no neutral position
I'm very confused on how this works? and staring at the schematic isn't helping either, Any thoughts appreciated!

This may be a bit of a shot in the dark, but have you tried swapping out the rear door switch entirely?
I was having weird intermittent window issues too, and on a whim I replaced the rear switch and it fixed all the issues.

I'm not sure what was wrong with my original switch, because I took it apart and all the contacts looked fine. Just something easy to try.

The wire inside of any of the Doors where they doors hinge have been known to break and create an open circuit.

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED just removing the power window system completely and replacing it with roll up windows. Easy peazy. The holes are already there.

I think it depends on where you live and if your Air Conditioning is worrking.

I have no AC so I drive with 3 of the windows at least partly opened. That would be the drivers side, passenger side and the drivers side rear. 2 would be a pain to roll up and down manually while you are driving.

Where the issue is; is with my Wife who cannot deal with a window malfunction herself as I can. But I am sure she would complain bitterly if I installed manual windows.

As the price of the rear Window Regulators that are known to bend and eat up the gear teeth rises and they are hard to get the rears indeed may end up getting a manual conversion.
