wiper valence won't come off?
Pulled and painted the wiper arms on my 82 300D yesterday. Decided it would be a good time to lube up the wiper linkages, so I popped out the plastic grills, and took out the screws and the plastic push rivets for that valence thing in the middle, but it seems to be stuck right around the passenger wiper shaft where it pokes through the valence.
I tried prying it off with a pry bar, still won't come off. I tried applying some heat with a heat gun and prying it, thinking maybe someone tried to seal around the shaft there with something, still won't come off. If I grab the valence by each end, it will pivot a bit around the wiper shaft, but it's stuck on something. Couldn't find anything in the FSM, but from what I've read on this forum and other places on the internet, it should come right off. I would just call it a day and put it back together, but the little pins for the rivets are on the other side, so, I really need to get this off. Am I missing something here?

it was hard to see (for me) if you had the large nut off and what the corrosion looked like but this one is pretty rusted. the black plastic cap comes off and that is underneath

HA! The valence is on top of the cap that goes over the nut so I can't see what it looks like but the other one is clean, no corrosion. Doesn't mean that one is, but I wouldn't think that would keep it welded on there like that. Plus, I can wiggle the valance a little and there are no crunchy noises coming from it.
Turns out I had some black acetate laying around so I turned some new pins for the push rivets and put it all back together. I'll try again some other time, hopefully after someone tells me where the secret fastener is. Thank for the help though!

wait, does that nut have to come off?!
On the drivers side, the chrome plastic piece had a large hole through it and the top of the wiper shaft stick through that. I assumed the one poking through the valence was the same. The plastic piece doesnt want to come off either, but I had to pry the drivers side off, so I thought I'd get the valence off first, then pry off the cover. From your pic, it looks like that nut is what is holding the valence on... I'll have to check that out next weekend. I need the trauma from this morning to wear off a bit

The nut is holding it on. I had one frozen on and the aluminum casting broke before the nut came loose. I had to cut the nut off with a grinder and then replace the mount underneath.
I hope you don't have the same experience.

It came off!!
Looks like I posted this back in october. This was the last thing I did to the car, I've been working on cleaning out the garage ever since. I parted with some machines I've had for years, mainly a wood lathe and an antique metal lathe that was collecting dust, but , wait, lemme dry my eyes a little...after a few trips to the dump, it's in for the winter!! (I didn't take the lathes to the dump. My dad got the wood lathe, and Steve from Pit Bull Motors, weirdly enough a Mercedes specialist in Long Island,N hY, sent a guy 2 1/2 hrs. to pick up the metal lathe)
So after getting it situated yesterday, I figured I'd pick up where I left off. Indeed, that nut was holding the valence on, so the next question is, do those linkages just pop apart like the fuel linkages do? I'd like to take everything apart and clean and lube it up. I tried prying on them a bit, but I applied more force than it took to pop the fuel linkages apart, so I figure I'd better check with the experts before I break something. Thanks for the help on this!
