Thanks for all the comments. In my "ultimate 240D" I had the euro 300na, a 307 diff and the five speed od. The only fly in the ointment was taking off and there the gearing was a bit too tall.

You really wanted to be going at least 50 before shifting into fifth. This gearing is similar to the gearing on my 39 stude with the turbo 300 and the five speed od. It is a little too tall. I am going to put on tires that are 2" shorter for a 10% knock down on gearing.

The gearing is fine on the road but around town it is a bit too tall. I seldom shift to fourth except in faster streets, and taking off is a bit too tall too.

A friend of mine was the seller on BaT, and it is so cool that Tom is acquiring this car! I was asked to do a P.P.I. on it, and I have to say it is a pretty awesome car! You wouldn't believe it unless you drove it, but it does have plenty of power. It almost seems like driving a turbo car. Everything on the car is like new. The rubber, wood, upholstery, paint etc. It looks and drives like a new car! Tom, I have no doubt you will absolutely love this car......Rich

Sounds excellent! Thank you my friend! I hope to make it out that way one of these days and have a meal with you and Will. I am now eager for it to arrive here. The NA engine won't make the ultimate power a turbo car will but because of the lack of a turbo and the lower gears the NA will feel very responsive around town....well, it will work well.

Thanks again Rich!

Tom

Is there a Haynes repair manual for the 124 for euro models in English?

Yes Haynes #3253 is pretty comprehensive. Separate sections for HFM, diesel, and KE jetronic. Should be able to find on Amazon or eBay.
