The transmission mount is different too requiring some possibly a different cross member.

This is a bit intimidating to me so I am going to sell it all off and buy a five speed from a 124 diesel package. I am in the market for a kit with all the parts including bolts for the five speed conversion for a diesel including the speedometer.
The electronic speedo is no big deal. I do believe (almost 99% positive) that most US spec 124's have an electronic speedo. You should be able to find the proper speedo . Don't give up on the project so easily!

The diesels of this era, 124 chassis, are mechanical speedo.

What says you have to use a speedo from a Diesel car? A 300E is a very popular car in the U S.

So I can just put in an electrical speedo and plug it into the transmission?

There is a cross member that is completely different too. And I was told I'd have to pound out some places in the tunnel to clear it.

I am too old to be doing it myself and my Indie is too busy to fool around with it so much so I think I'll just use it as is for now and see how that is. My automatic is shifting perfectly, so this six speed project is not needed.

I had forgotten about the wiring, so yes it would be a hassle to hook up an electronic speedo if the wiring is not present. However, if you wanted to go the other way (from electronic to cable), that would be easy. But since the 6 speed involves other modifications, it might not be worth the effort for you. I would say a 5 speed would be much easier, as they were in the 190, and more available.

Today went to pick up the glow plugs for it at Advance auto. Unfortunately they turned out to be spark plugs for God Knows what.

Are there different pencil glow plugs for different years? I believe I have some in stock from previous 124 or 126 cars.

I got mine from FCP Euro. Mine is a 1991 250TD. Should be the same. At ~$12 each they're cheap enough to just buy new ones as a preventative mainttenance thing.

But Pelican should have an entire selection too.

I use the Kirkland 15W40 from Costco. Oil specs should be the same as the boosted diesel of the same series.

I am thinking about softer front springs and shocks for the front. The car sits very high as if it has some sort of high clearance package. Any body know about this possibility.
