‘83 240D salvage

I was just looking for an intermediate shaft set for my ‘78 but couldn’t turn down the opportunity to pick and pull to my hearts content on the owners property. It lost coolant, overheated, & blew a head gasket.
After draining fluids and retrieving my target parts I’m not taking the block. I got the head, cam tower, cam, lifters, oil pan, oil pump, filter housing, manifolds, linkage, and cooler I don’t think there’s anything else I can pull from the engine without removing it, I don’t have a hoist, nor do I want to invest the time in rebuilding the entire engine. I may rebuild or recondition the head if it’s not warped or cracked. So far it looks good.
In the process I got new: radiator, fan, hoses, and belts; the entire fuel system except for the tank, and lines which I may pull if there’s time; doors, hood, boot lid, and all the trim

You may want to get the vacuum pump, timing advance gear and intermediate shaft.

Searching for a intermediate shaft set and timing device sprocket were the parts I was looking for whe I found the donor. I already got them and they are in great shape and your suggestion is an excellent piece of advice that I’ll pass on to others in the future. I’ve never heard of a timing device wearing out but I know the springs are replaceable. I’d love to know the wear specs for the main bushing. They’re available but if it’s not worn Id still use it. I could say the same for the thrust bushing. The donor has the same wear as my own. It doesn’t appear very worn at all but without knowing the tolerance I can’t be certain. Those two parts are over a $100. As for the Vacuum Pump, I did salvage it but I don’t believe they don’t sell replacement parts for the piston type. My own preference is the single diaphragm for our purposes but conceptually, the pulley driven Piersburg could be a an option to eliminate the rare but potential failures associated with the cam driven design. I’ve only seen a picture diagram of them on a 616. off-road or marine applications? Anyway, great suggestions. Thank you.
