300td

Springfield is near Summit/ Short Hills...

Couldn't let the car go for less than $3500 regardless of book value...

If interested email me at feketefamily@comcast.net

thanks,
Andrew

hold firm

I am in nearby Madison and have an 82 300 TD with 200k on it. Cherry ext / int. I have been told by a notable Mercedes mechanic that I could get 6 or 7 for it so I counsel you hold out for at least the 3500 assumming the body rust you refer to IS minor. The characters lurking this forum are too jaded and experienced in the matter of negotiating to give you what you would find on the open market. Put an ad in the NY times and/or yahoo classified and you will get some action, I predict.

best of luck,

Paul

Based on what I see listed on AutoTrader and e-bay, $3500 isn't too low for a car with the mileage and service record yours has. The rust is a bit of a turnoff, but it depends on amount and severity. I'd think you could get at least $3500. My wife and I are looking at another td locally that we hope will go for sale. Slightly less mileage, one-owner since new, all records - I'm hyperventilating at the thought of getting it. I'm just afraid they may overvalue it, pricing it out of our reach.

Good luck!

Joel

I guess my question would be: how much rust is normal, and where is it? I myself want a nice TD but wouldn't want it if rust will render it unfit for PA state inspection in a few years. Even though PA allows bondo repairs to fenders and stuff, I'd rather avoid a car that is rusting away, or about to. Are we talking surface rust spots from unrepaired stone chips or incipient body cancer? Just wondering, thanks, Bob

sorry about the "jaded" part

I realized that after I posted this that "jaded" is not quite right. Wise iswhat I meant!

Here in Kentucky, TD's are REALLY overpriced. My own mechanic tried to give me a "sweet" deal on an 82 with rust on all four corners, low compression engine, sagging seats, electrical problems, bald tires, shot brakes, and non-functional rear leveling system.... for ONLY $3500. If he put in a used engine, he wanted $5500!

Others I've seen lately... 84 for $7200, 84 for $6500, and a couple more 82's ranging from $4000 - 7000.

People up here think since it's a MBZ, it is worth it's weight in gold!

Even the best one I've seen lately, I wouldn't have offered more than $4k...

WmHarlow,
Maybe those of us living in low MB price zones should go into business with you. We'll ship the cheap stuff your way and you can soak the locals!!
