1984 300DT: installing new throttle linkage sockets and nuts.

1984 300DT. Planning on installing new throttle linkage sockets and nuts. I want to make sure that I neither lengthen nor shorten the current set-up. Could I simply measure the length of the connecting rod then make sure my new install matches?

I am planning on taking detailed photographs BEFORE starting the work.

The manual gives lengths for all of the linkages so that implies that you can do it that way. What can throw it off a bit is any slop in the socket. You might bias each link slightly by mimicking the throttle pedal being slightly pushed then measure from center of the shaft of the ball to center of the shaft on the other end. Or from outside of shaft to outside. Either way, it's the distance from ball to ball you want and not necessarily the overall length of the link. All this assumes it works correctly now but has been tweaked due to wear. If you were starting from scratch, using the factory measurements might be a better idea.

Measure your old ones from the center of one hole to the center or the other hole.
See attached picture.

Thank you for your answers, this confirms that I need to acquire the FSM before proceeding. Any ideas where might be a good place to acquire a copy of the FSM?

There is an online manual but I am away from my home and the desktop computer that has that info on it.

I followed that document with good results, you should be good to go. New hardware will make the end result even better.

Yes, I was looking for good step by step instructions and this looks like it. BTW, the dealer told me they will not and do not sell FSM manuals to us end users. Super secret "FIDUO" (for internal dealer use only.

Mercedes used to sell the Manuals on CD's and there is a private company that used to be called mercedesmanuals that used to sell them. I say used to because I have not look for over 10 years.

The old CD manual I have won't play on my my Computer.

Try the Mercedes Classic center or take a chance on eBay but make sure it is on disc. Also you need to know what operating system the disc will operate with.

I did not look at the details closely at this site. Type in you search like Mercedes W123 and see what manuals they sell:
