Guys,

We had a nice icing event here in NE Texas.

After work, I work nights, it chipped the wiper blade out of the ice. Started the car and allowed it to warm up. Wiper was working fine.

I turned the wiper off, and got to the interstate, when freezing rain hit again. I turned on the wiper, and it moved and the halted in the center position.

I got it home, and was able to move the wiper arm by hand.

I checked the fuses, nothing blown.

Any ideas?

Can you hear the wiper motor running?

I disassembled and reassembled it twice.
Probably lack of lubrication, that's what causes all of them to fail (no vertical movement). There was literally plastic dust in mine.
Taking it off and repairing - not a lot of fun, but not difficult. You need to open the mechanism to properly inspect and lubricate it.
These motors rarely fail.

Ahh the good 'ol DTM look!

Had this on a lot of w124's, sometimes fixed with a diassembly amd lubing, sometimes needed a new (-ish used) wiper motor assembly.

If the blade moves and oscillates, then all you need to replace is the motor. It's a tedious job, but not impossible. If the blade doesn't oscillate, you'll have to disassemble to determine the problem. If the gear is broken, these are available as replacements if you need one:

The motor does not seem to try to come one. I manually moved the wiper to its park, and now I cannot move it. Also noticed a burnt plastic smell in the air vents.

I bet I need to replace the motor, or the relay. But, it smells similiar to burnt motor windings.

Will the facelift system replace the pre facelift wiper system? I found a few near by at wrecking yard, running 50 to 150.

Yup wiper mechanisms interchange throughout the entire production of the W124.

Before spending the money you can try and power the motor directly.

Wiper motor terminals:

2 - Ground
5 - Low/Normal Speed
3 - High Speed

Where? I'm looking everywhere for 124 in the yards and there is nothing

I used car-part.com Found yards near me. They are in the Dallas area.

Found a wiper assembly, from a 93 300E. Paid $47 for it. I tested the new motor, it ran nice and quiet. Tested the old motor and it was noisy, and the mechanism was stiff and notchy.

The replacment assembly works well.

I have one problem...somehow I lost the plastic part that covers the wiper arm set screw. Anyone know where to find one?
