Rebuilt Diesel engines

I am in the process of rebuilding five Diesel engines.

1- 1984 Mitsubishi 2.3 Turbo (finished, waiting on the truck to arrive that it is going into)
2- 1982 OM617 Turbo (finished and mounted on a run stand, awaiting payment)
3- 1982 OM616 (bottom end done, waiting for the head at the machinist)
4- 1983 OM617 Turbo (machine work done, awaiting assembly)
5- 1982 OM616 for the "Brauner Benz" (look it up) Engine not pulled yet, but soon.

All but #4 are spoken for or existing customers. #4 will be sold when it is finished, or before if someone reserves it.

EDIT: I am having trouble uploading photos, so only one worked. Here is a link to the folder of engine photos.....Rich https://photos.app.goo.gl/9UDteS74YdrAuqJH8

Not sure what the "google" price is, but Metric Motors is around 9K. I can do one for around $5,000. Having a complete machine shop a couple blocks away really helps. I also have two sets of NOS standard turbo pistons, so I don't need to source good used ones. The last OM617 turbo engine did not come with a core, so I don't have any of the external parts left that are needed to make a complete engine. I only have block, crank, and head cores.

Very cool Rich. I dream about doing something like this. It’s on the bucket list with doing a paint job. Probably I’ll never get to it.

Thanks for sharing he photos.

Years ago I bought 3 sets of .50 over pistons, so that is the hard part. The second hardest part was the head (so I thought). My friend found new complete heads available for around $400. I also bought some closeout parts from the Rock. I had a truck and two extra engines at one time. The guy I sold the truck to needed the engine rebuilt. I rebuilt one of the engines I had, and will put it in the truck in a couple weeks. I will then rebuild another one (I have all the parts to do so) and sell it.

It will be $5,000 plus a core. It will be completely assembled and ran before it is let out the door (like the first one). It will be standard bore with NEW pistons, rings, sleeves, bearings, chain, guides, oil pump, oil pan, gaskets, water pump, glow plugs, and fuel hoses (the three plastic ones). It will have rebuilt injectors (from Greazzer) and rebuilt cylinder head. I only have block and head cores, so a core is needed to build a complete engine. If someone just wanted a long block, I can do that without a core for $4,000 outright. No delivery available, only pick up in Hesperia, CA....Rich

That is nice looking work. In my travels I've heard that diesels are harder to rebuild than gassers but I have no direct experience. Aside from a rebuild I did on the V4 I took out of my totaled '67 Saab 96 to put in a Saab 95 (station wagon) I found cheap with bad motor.

Did it with advice from my dad over the phone. It ran well enough when reassembled but I have no idea if I did a really good job. Probably not a highly demanding engine to rebuild.

I was able to sell it at a decent price few years later, I forget how much.
